I have never done a 52 or 365 project before. This year I have decided to attempt a 52 week project with the theme of "windows". I have heaps of ideas but since going back to work after the summer holidays I realise it is going to be challenge to get out find one every week. If I manage to keep it up I will post my progress here.

If anyone wishes to join in please feel free.

Here is the first month

Very nice start to this project. I like the popeye one. The spinach can and the red on his clothes/name match the colours of the building.

Really great idea. A window a week sounds manageable yet challenging. I'll follow your thread with interest and keep my eyes open for interesting Windows up here.

Thanks for looking and commenting guys.

At this stage it has been OK, but I am going to try to keep up the variety in an attempt to make it interesting, so it may get a bit more difficult after I exhaust the more obvious options. I am using this as an exercise in discipline - firstly in getting out to shoot one each week, but also in editing, where I am limited to posting one per week, no matter how many I capture that I may like.

Time for the February update. I have just managed to get 4 more windows over the past 4 weeks (mainly taken during the last hours of each week). I am not entirely happy with all of them, but that is the way it goes with these projects I guess..

I love the diner shot with the couple in the reflection.

This is a bit deceptive actually Jason - the couple is actually an image on the inside wall. I liked the effect when I took it though beacause it isnt obvious where it is.

Yes, I'll bet there are some really cool windows there. Doing a project like this does change the way you look at things that previously went unnoticed. To me this is one of the joys of photography and the way it makes you see the world around you a little differently.

I really love the one with the silhouette of the boy standing in front of the window.

I was hoping to get this one, but had to wait and wait until the boy finally went to the right spot, and then for the guy in the window to co-operate as well. For that reason I was quite pleased with this.

Sorry to keep boring everyone with this project, and thanks for your comments to date.

17 weeks down - 35 to go. This month I didnt find a lot of time to be creative, and these were pretty much all captured in the last hours of each week.

So far this has been an interesting learning experience and, if you will indulge me, I might share the odd bits and pieces that I have learned.

1. - The dreaded harsh midday sun can actually be good for this project, particularly to bring out the texture in walls.
2. - The adaptive wide angle filter is my new best friend. Due to mostly shooting up and often at an angle, it is brilliant to fix the perspective.

Anyway, here are this months photos.

To me a series of well shot, interesting images done in the tradition of French Photographer Eugene Atget. It's a series that could be made into posters or a photo book.

Thanks for the kind comments Jim. I will confess to having to Google Eugene Atget, and appreciate the comparison.

I note this from the Wikipedia article about him "his genius was only recognized by a handful of young artists in the last two years of his life, and he did not live to see the wide acclaim his work would eventually receive"

I am waiting

I am really starting to struggle with this project. Time has been against me as I have had other commitments and I am also suffering a bit of lack of motivation. I still have a few fresh ideas, but I am not finding the time to make them happen. A few of these shots from this update werent taken in the "right" weeks and I have cheated and used some shots that I had up my sleeve.

If I am starting to wear out, then I am sure everyone else must be bored with these, so dont be surprised if this is the last update here. If interested you can follow on my Flickr page Windows - a set on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/56001877@N04/sets/72157632472984457/)

This is a wonderful project RM and I encourage you not to give up on it....and I have a suggestion.
Most of these fab shots are taken outside...start hunting for cool inside images. That might lift your MoJo.
These might be harder but they will add fab variety imo and depending on how opaque the windows are, you get to see inside and outside...layers.
Coffeeshops, churches, office cubicles, the inside of a truck, a basement.....these have fabulous potential for your project!

I agree with Marko, don't quit on this project now! You're 3/4ths of the way through. I wasn't aware of this project until today and find it intriguing. You've found many interesting windows, it makes me curious to see whether I could find that many in and around my town. I think your work is clean and this project may be becoming boring to you, but these images and takes are all new to us. These aren't things we've been thinking about 24/7 trying to find a new look and new view each day/week. Keep up the good work, we'd love to see what else you can show us from AU!

Wow, thank you all for your encouragement. I really felt heartened to see the response here and Marko's appeal on the Facebook page

I REALLY appreciate the suggestions Marko. I will definitely use some of them. I had thought about doing more inside shots, and it was these type of shots I was referring to in my post about having some fesh ideas but not the time. Outside windows are an easy fallback position when time is a problem. I had also hoped to travel more this year opening up more opportunities, however circumstances havent allowed it.

Tom - to be quite honest I have been quite surprised how many windows I have found, I didnt expect to find the variety I have. Thanks for commenting (I dont think we have met before - so G'day)

Thanks again Marko, trhoads, BF, Jim & Jason. I really appreciate the support and stayed tuned for the next update.

Some more great additions. I don't know how you find so many interesting windows. I like that last one posted 48/52. The dramatic sky really adds to the picture.
Home stretch - I sure you will be relieved to see the end, however many, including myself, will be disappointed to see the finish of this project.

Thanks asnow -

I sure will be relieved to see the end of the commitment, but on the other hand I am sure that after a year of looking for windows I wont suddenly be able to stop looking, so expect a few more to pop up as I stumble across them.

48/52 wasn't originally supposed to be a window project shot, but I too liked the sky, I didn't have anything else this week and it seemed to fit, so here it is.

I will confess to being surprised how many different windows I have managed to find. The only regret I have is not getting more indoor window shots (ie someone looking longingly out a window, or reading book in front of window etc)

Thanks JAS. I think that one is my new favourite too (for this week anyway)

No doubt you will all be relieved to see the end of this thread. Here is the final instalment (or is it? - I captured a lot of windows during my recent vacation so a few "extras" may pop up later).

This is the end of the official 52 though. Thank you all for your encouragement. and support :thankyou:

I am not normally much of a photobook person but for Christmas my mother gave me a voucher to make one with images from my windows project. It arrived yesterday and I was very pleased with the end product.

Thanks Lorey, Aub & asnow. It was a fun project overall, despite a few ups and downs along the way. I have been overwhelmed by friends and family response to the photo book, so I am glad I did that.

Asnow the cover is actually a panoramic shot that spans both front and back covers. As it was so long an narrow it didn't fit with the other images from the project, so was delighted to be able to use it in this way.
