I have been watching the Canadian T.V. series "Cracked" on Netflix. It features a tune by Canadian band and Halifax locals, Wintersleep. Been really enjoying this band. :)

In honour of World Beard Day on 7th September I thought I would share a local band "The Beards". Despite the novelty value, I saw them supporting Motley Crue and Kiss earlier this year and they were actually very good.
Their songs include:
Got me a beard
You should consider having sex with a bearded man
Why having a beard is better than having a woman
I'm in the mood ...... for beards
Beards dont kill people, people with breards kill people
and this one

A beautiful story and song. It has potential for and I would rather see an acoustic arrangement.

The child downstairs learning to play piano. In a three story wooden building you think they would have bought the child a piano with a headphone out jack but NO! Everyday for two hours the child practices right below me! I have a Baby Grand myself...They never hear a peep out of it

The sleeper band from X-Fest Calgary. They pretty much blew everyone who saw them perform away. Kind of a Tom Waits meets Enya sound, their voices perfectly compliment each other. Oddball lyrics, charisma and danceability combine for a winning combination. Hope to see them headlining next years X-Fest. :)

Last night I was fortunate enough to see Courtney Barnett live. She tours tirelessly and does a terrific & energetic show. Her recent album is great too.

Fun thread.
At the mo I have Saviors' Livin' in the Void on.
Mostly I listen to stoner metal, but this is on the thrashier side...bordering on sludge sometimes if you can believe that combo.

Referring to the blanked out video above:
Sadly the BBC unlinks their videos shortly after the Festival. Here is a replacement although the sound is crap. We were about 4 rows in from the front and dead centre. Wayne zorbed right over us both ways. The show was so uplifting and emotional strangers were hugging each other at the end. I have seen the Lips a few times but this was undoubtedly the best.

Fleet Foxes would have to be my favourite band of the past 10 years. Last year I was successful in the ballot to buy tickets to their Sydney Opera House concert (one of their first after after a long hiatus) but then was unable to go.
A few weeks ago, I was able to make the trip to Melbourne to see them live. It was brilliant and the best concert I can recall.

I just looked up the lineup for shaky knees. What a great festival. In addition to Fleet Foxes there were multiple acts I really like and would have loved to have seen:
The National, Courtney Barnett, Nathaniel Ratecliff, Franz Fredinand, BRMC, war on drugs,

I had Platinum tickets and they treated us like royalty. We were right up front with access to an onstage platform for most of the acts if you wished to go up there. We were right up front for all acts for both Peachtree and Pine stages. It was back and forth, back and back and forth from one great act to the next. The crowd was not too big and getting from stage to stage was easy. Jack White burned up the stage, David Byrne was amazing (I am seeing him again tonight at the much more stately theatre Calgary's Jubilee.) The National!! Matt came down into the crowd! I have the bad cellphone pics to prove it. Say what you will about them Greta Van Fleet were awesome to watch. It was amazing start to finish and worth every dollar! I had only one real clash where I gave up seeing Jack Black (I have seen him before) to go see the Voidz before the National came on. The Festival was in Central Park which is only a short walk from all the major downtown hotels and with all the crowds it was safe to walk.

Last night I saw I saw Iron and Wine (with band) at a smallish venue in Adelaide. The smaller venue suited this style of act, and I am glad he was with the band as they really added to the performance in my opinion.

I play guitar. Started when I was 15. Quit for 30 years when I 25. Started again in 2005. It influences what I listen to. Often instrumental over vocal music. Everything from jazz to blues to progressive improvisation. I sometimes listen to classical music, but not opera.

Been a while, yet I'm still listening to Two Steps From Hell. The Epic Orchestra genre is such a grand one!
