Ok this is another image game. Mainly for abstracts and images of the sort. It can be easy or hard, just understand, the goal is to see more images. Again, Ill post an image, whomever guesses the image correctly wins, and then gets to post an image, and then the guessing starts all over again. They can be full images, or cropped images, just make it enough so that we can figure out what it is. Ok, here we go again. Cheers!!

Oh this is a good game and a nice image. I know what this is but I'm not guessing since I don't have an abstract image handy :D

i'll give someone else the honours on this one.

A headlight or a paint can?

Marko, I thought you knew? HAHA. I did leave it in some adverse conditions to get this image though.....

i want to say its some kind of port hole, like on a boat - pointing up like a skylight while its raining??

jjeling
01-30-2009, 11:04 PM
You are getting closer. It does involve one of the elements you mentioned kiley. Maybe if it were a little more contained...

Barefoot
01-31-2009, 01:19 AM
This is a tough one. It looks like there's some frozen liquid involved. Is it the bottom of a bottle?

jjeling
01-31-2009, 01:53 AM
I will give credit to Barefoot. It is the top of a blue nalgene bottle with the frozen water and the top removed. It was as close as anyone would get without being exact. Well, now that Barefoot won, its your turn. It can be an abstract image or a smaller crop of a full size image. Just make sure we have a chance at knowing what it is, and make us guess!

Barefoot
01-31-2009, 02:25 AM
I probably shouldn’t have ventured a guess since I don’t have much in the shoebox that isn’t easily recognizable. I’ll give it a go with an easy one so we can move along to the next one.

A lampshade?

I'll have to agree with you on that. For the life of me I couldn’t get the sprockets, even though I’ve had my hands on them plenty of times. What’s painfully obvious to some can be infuriatingly elusive to others. Hope I didn’t offend anyone by saying it was an easy one. People who know me well say I’m a real “fun guy”.

Keep trying!

I’m sorry, but I can’t say that anyone has been remotely close yet. It’s not a crop of a larger image, but instead, it’s a macro shot. Try this; put the image on your desktop and then rotate it 180 degrees.

Don’t overlook the hint in my previous post.

Holy carp Ben H GOOD ONE - that was hard.

These things are weird - your brain either sees it straightaway, or it just doesn't get there. For me, I saw it and knew what it was straight away. But I thought some of the others were really hard... :)

YOUR image is tough too. Is it a symbol for a new religion where they get you to shave your head and get you to give away your money?...again, I got nothin' :D

They certainly expect to get your money, but last time I tried I didn't have to shave anything...

Edit: to be fair, I thought this was a worldwide brand, but it appears to be only a British one, so it might be a little tougher for you US of A folks... ;)

its a shot glass and you are looking down into it :P from a golf club... here is a brief summary of that course.

The Minikahda Club is a golf club and course located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is located near Lake Calhoun. The club was established in 1898. The name Minikahda comes from the Sioux, a combination of two Indian words meaning "by the side of the water." The course was site of the 1916 U.S. Open, 1927 U.S. Amateur golf Championship, 1957 Walker Cup.

specific enough hahahahaha :) :P

holy crap. The one that i thought was easy peasy took a bit of guessing and the one i thought for sure would be a challenge was blasted out on the 2nd response. TT = bad judge of all of the participants here. at any rate, way to go, Igs! - your turn. maybe you will be better at gauging just the right amount of challenge!

BTW- this bike is parked on our back yard where it has been for the past 9 years - It was in pristine condition until I made my honey allow me to let it rust for my "yard art". He bought that bike in 1963, was imported from England, was the first 5 speed bike in his hometown of Lena, IL., USA He paid $60 US - was his pride and joy - put a lot of miles on that puppy and took really good care of it. According to him, the holder of many of his teen memories. *sigh*

You're both on the right track, but it does have a "proper" name. A little work with google and the guesses offered so far may give me what I'm looking for. If not, I'll give it to Light Painting.

Lissajous figures

Barefoot
03-01-2009, 05:30 PM
Nope, nope, and nope. Actually, I don’t think a laser pointer would work for one of these. I probably made a poor choice by putting one up. I found them by accident and my attempt at duplicating the technique is poor. What I’m looking for is the name given to these types of images. Light Painting is the closest yet because it does involve painting with light. They seem to have a large following as there are many web pages dedicated to showing them.

An image of a mountain scene is a landscape, one of a beautiful woman in a studio is a portrait, and painting with light in this fashion is a ???.

After two more incorrect guesses, I’m giving it to EJC for being the closest first, although Greg is awful close and thinking along the right lines by giving the practice an actual name.

BlueX
03-01-2009, 05:44 PM
Kinetic photography?

Barefoot
03-01-2009, 06:19 PM
Maybe we should let Greg have this one and move on to something different. It is Light Painting as EJC guessed, but more specifically it’s an image of frequency. Not that of vibrations as Greg suggested, but the frequency of the motion of a pendulum.

They’re called Physiograms. People create them in different ways, but almost all involve the use of a very small flashlight (mine was a L.E.D. keychain light) suspended from a ceiling with string in a dark room and then setting the light in a swinging motion above the upward pointing camera set to bulb or at least a 30 second exposure. They have about as much value as a “Camera Toss”, but you’re less likely to destroy your expensive DSLR in the process.

They are a lot of fun to cerate, particularly when the weather isn’t conducive to outdoor photography. (Or, if you’re just bored stiff!)
