I'm not very aviation inclined. I have no idea what this is or even what you mean by "transient parking". This shot does kinda work for this month's assignment though with all the triangles.

Iggy, it's a very, very large helicopter. They're used for a variety of things (air conditioning units lifted to the top of commercial buildings, for instance). This one is set up for fire fighting. Wikipedia (of course) has a write-up, including specs. Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorsky_S-64_Skycrane) Did I mention that it's big?

Transient parking is overnight and other short term parking for aircraft that are flying through to other destinations. Or stopping for the classic $100 hamburger at the coffee shop. ;) There is sometimes a fee for the parking, but it's often very nominal.

The picture is of a couple of the rotor blades. Ones that large are tied down when the copter's on the ground because wind can cause the blades to flap up and down and potentially damage them. Kind of an expensive thing to have happen.

Marko, glad you got a chuckle out of it, and Iggy, I'll go over and post this to the assignment, too. And here's a picture of the whole thing. (A bit oversharpened, I'm afraid, but you get the idea)

I was kind of in Iggy's camp. I didn't completely understand that first shot. After seeing the full picture and your wonderful explanation, I now get it.

And yes it does work for the triangles.

Thank you, HGB. asnow, yeah, it can be confusing if you've never seen something like that. First time I'd ever seen one up close, too. I tried for other parts and angles, but the sun was at a wretched angle by that point. It's gone now, and who knows when I'll get another chance like that.
