I had this idea to jam a flash behind large ice formations..... it didn't work out but thought i would share anyways...
i need to find a better location where the ice formation aren't as long as the flash would only reach half way up before dithering out.... this was shot off the side of a highway hence the brown snow in the fore..... oh well maybe next time... i'll post if i can get a winner...

That last shot looked like it had potential.
What was the flash setting and what was the camera's exposure?
LOVE this type of play!!!
I'm confused as to what you were trying to achieve? What would the look be like if you got what you wanted?
I hope you get to do it so I can see it!!!

in the last shot the flash (vivitar) was down to 1/4, the camera was f10 1/60 iso400

I was going for a glowing ice effect (without detail loss) like in the last shot, with glistening rocks (like in the 1st shot)
The dynamic range was too great. Next time I'll set up for an exposure blend or I might try putting two flash units on either side of the rock to bring up the exposure.... and ... of course... some better looking subject matter...

I think that would work EVEN with this subject. has a 'mysterious' feel.
