In order to enter a photography contest sponsored by the Calgary Marathon, one needs pictures. To obtain pictures, one needs to be on the marathon course shortly after 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. Today was the day. Here's one of my entries. Please see my Flickr for my others and the competition's.

f/5.6, 1/640, 105 mm, ISO 400 Luckily a very overcast, shadowless day.

Pretty cool, capturing so many people to show so many people participating.

I only have one question. Don't Canadians know about bicycles? Well at least 1 Canadian does. Congrats to Ryder Resjedal :1st: at the Giro d'Italia

Nice shot, Mike. I like your location to get such a large crowd both coming and going! :)

Great comp. Love the depth with the runners in the foreground and the city in the background.

Good shot - and cool set on Flickr. It is great photographing runners with all their bright colours. I too like the runners in the foreground with the backdrop of the city.

That is a pretty busy turnaround for the 34 km mark (although I am guessing there may be shorter distance racers that are perhaps joining the course as well??)

Thanks for the comments. Antz: Yes we do know about bicycles and Resjedal was suddenly front page news today. But who follows the Giro D'Italia? I had heard about him last year during the Tour de France I think.
Runmonty: The turnaround was for both the marathon and 1/2 marathon runners. They weren't coming through at the same time, obviously. It was about km. 13 for the halfers and there were way more halfers, in the thousands, and it got busy. I liked the motion implied in the shots at ground level. A guy on the bridge asked me if I would shoot his girlfriend when she came through and he pointed her out to me. The shot For Erin is one of the best it turned out.

That is good shot of Erin. Your timing was spot on to get her turning, and with an unimpeded view.
