Here are some recent makeshift macros... not happy with the spiderlings because it is a little out of focus but I really liked just how close up I got with them and I was happy with the composition.

I really like the third one Iggy, and love the baby spiders.
First one is very cool. makes me want to get out an take some macros

These are cool Iggy! Seems like you are really digging the macros! Time to start saving a few pennies for a dedicated macro lens which is on sale now at thecamerastore. Not cheap at just over 6 bills, but cheaper than many top quality lenses that ring in at close to 2k. I use this technique all the time still too. ( I just got shots of a scary spider I need to process and post...muuaaahhaaa!!!)

That's a great deal - The Nikon equivalent was closer to a grand when i bought it years ago.

Thanks for the tips... my next purchase, however, will likely be a body upgrade if I can ever save the money for it. My daughter is heading to college in the fall which is gonna cost me a bundle!

I agree with you - very nice composition, and I love the colour of these tiny guys.

Very nice set of macros. You can look for Tamron lens 90mm 2.8 1:1 macro too. I am very happy with this one. Look comparison visa Canon and Nikon lens.Maybe you will be surprised.
