As some of you already know. We live in an area surrounded by hundreds of miles of bush, but there is a city? (population 8500), north-west of us. Got back from a quad ride with friends and saw some smoke. Went in to check the MNR fire report on net, and yes, had just started a few hours ago. Off for a drive, but did not take the big lenses, but still got a few decent ones in the harsh light, just to show you the action going on.
Very exciting, yet very frightful in a way. Fire is still out of control, and over 2700 hectares in size. Residents told to be at ready for evacuation. They are trying to hold a line around this town now.
Forest fire just north of town.

Save the Gold!!!! This is one of the larger gold mines. They did save it, but lost main power as supply lines got fried.

Fillin' up with water to drop on the fire.

Nice shots HBG. They had pictures on Global News of that fire and it's quite large. I hope you and your property are safe.

Thanks XP. We are fine for now, but fire is only 22 km away, and winds are blowing our way and getting stronger. Yesterday, fire was travelling at 4km/hr through bush! They are doing a fine job of holding it at location, but cannot use firebombers at night. Hope winds die down, and rains come, but none in sight as of now. Pretty smoky out here now! NOT FUN!!!!!

Usually, but we have not had any significant rain in a couple months now. Absolutely NO OPEN FIRE ban in effect, but with May 24 weekend you always have the ones ignoring this. Hate to say it, but cottagers/campers are the worst offenders. We have over a dozen fires within a 150 mile radius of us right now. One is over 5000 hectares in size and growing.
Another pic with Water-bomber in to show scale of fire.

Stay safe, HBG but I like your photos... that last one with the plane filling up is very cool.

That last shot with the 'tiny' plane and the huge blaze obviously extending well past the right hand border of the picture is spectacular, but also frightening. Best wishes and stay safe.

When I saw on the news about a big fire near Kirkland Lake, I immediately wondered how this was effecting you. Gad to hear that you and your place are safe so far. Lets hope they can get it under control and it doesn't get any closer.
I really like that last shot with the plane banking and the fire in the background. Gives you a great perspective on size.

Interesting series Hbg. I like that shot filling up on the lake. Hope none of the action is too close you your place.

Thanks all, and thanks for the concern. Fire is just "being held", but the town of Kirkland is still on evacuation standby, and conditions for fire to spread are getting worse as it is getting drier/hotter, with high winds again.
