I am sure it was here I saw the idea. Well my local club is now onto it's third image and it is going well.

Main point one has to say what one did to the original image and of course has to be a RAW image to start with.

We have up to now used Minus to host the RAW image a free site that will allow one to upload a RAW image. So the first image was one of mine at IMGP1433.PEF - Minus (http://minus.com/lbj22QqY0LV5FK) sorry I can't give links to the results but I was quite surprised at what was done with the image.

I am not proud and I have to admit others did better with the image than me. But with my image I was near the top and proud of my result. But as the next two arrived I was flagging and it points out how much we all consider what we can do with software at the time of taking.

I am sure there will be many more. Sorry I can't let you all see the results. But feel at least I should say how this forum has been the start of something new.

I did look to find orignal post sorry could not find it. As to if on an open forum the idea will work is something else. But on my local clubs closed forum it has been a great success. It has shown us how even the shot which we would delete as being useless can be transformed.

I hope it takes off here as much as it has in my local club in Mold Flintshire North Wales part of the UK.

Just as an FYI....The Cambridge In Colour website has a monthly thread similar to your idea. A single photo obviously in need of some help is posted and anyone interested can take a shot at it. I don't do any PP but judging by the response the exercise appears to be very popular with submissions last month hitting in the neighbourhood of 70. The results posted are quite good and voting for only one takes some detailed analysis which in itself is a benefit to many.(well, me anyway)

It is running well at the club at the moment. But all new items do. I would guess it will drop off once the novelty value has gone. Our Challenge also did well for 6 months the winner would set next challenge we would start at 7:30pm and finish at 9:30pm one had to take and process image in that time and post in club forum. Up to 16 taking part in hay day last was down to 3 so giving a rest for a while.
The not only viewing but also being able to ask how it was done is a clear advantage. Talking face to face with people after also makes it a good talking point. Summer sees our formal meeting end with just a chat night. So it may continue for some time yet as no competitions at the moment.
I felt since this site gave me the idea I should report back on how it worked. Think we all have fads at the moment I am doing a lot with layer masks and apply. Last year it was HDR. I am sure I will find a future project. Had some fun with pin hole on D-SLR all good fun.
