I waited until the last game to take it, so I cannot re-take. The light is very hard because of the high Sun.
Here is the original, and my attempt at a "Team Poster" edit. Any suggestions? I want to do it, just looking for some way to help the image

Color efex pro and use control points to brighten up the darker portions of their faces. That will not, however, do anything for the bright sunshine squinting. Frankly, I think the girls and parents would love this as is.

I would play with it more, I cannot tell you I would do until I was playing with it. What do use for post processing? Also I hope you shoot in RAW, I played with it for a minute just wanted to see something. You can fix it somewhat more if you still have the RAW image and lightroom.

I still have it in RAW. All I have as for editing is GIMP.

Down load lightroom and color efex there free for 30 days and give it a shot I think you will like what you can come up with. Not saying that what you have already done the parent won't like I think they would be happy with what you have done.

Bringing out the shadows of their faces helped a lot. Nicely done!
