Sometimes keeping it simple with both colour and composition seems to work.

Hi tegan,
I like colours but I find this photo a bit distracting. My eye seems to wandering all over. The sky or the flag aren't really adding to this shot in my opinion. For me it's all about the chairs. :o

An interesting take. Thank you.
The way I looked at it was that colourwise the sky matched the blue chair..as in blue and white and the flag matched the red chair..as in red and white, but hey there is always more than one way of looking at an image. :)

Cool. Thanks for the thanks.
I'm actually a big fan of cropping on most photos. And just as a test I took a white sheet of paper and cropped the whole photo from the top until just a bit of sky showed. Then I also cropped the right side just a bit. For me that made the photo much stronger except for the flagpole. The flagpole would then need to be photoshopped, and I don't know if you are a purist.....are you?

I am regarded as a very skilled photoshopper although there is always more to learn in that area. I also draw your attention to the iceberg image which was not and is not even a photo at all. So, no I am not a purist. :)

So, Gibbon, I take it that this is what you had in mind.

This is really close tegan, but I would still take a full inch off the sky so that perhaps the sky is only twice the height of the trees in the background. Then, it's really about the chairs. Great photoshopping on the flagpole!
