Okay. I am going to get a new camera here in a couple of months and I am only going to get a single lens. I don't want to spend money. Here are the four cameras I am looking at getting:

The D300
The D700
The 5D
The 5D Mark II

So, I am not looking for a what camera is better or what should I buy, this is more a discussion of your experiences with the camera. I have read review after review. I would just like to hear some hands on stuff from owners of these cameras.

I want a full frame camera, that is my reason for the upgrade. I was considering the D300 though but it is probably already out compared to the 5D. I just wanted to hear some input.

Currently, I am leaning towards the 5D because of the FF and the price is right.

So, anyone use any of these cameras?

I have used the Canon 5D and it is excellent with a good lens.

I've not tried the D300 or the D700 but I have heard excellent first hand reviews on both. Hope that helps

Ok- I don't use any of those cameras, but I do have something useful for you. I have no idea what Nikon has on offer in comparision, but IMHO you will absolutely, madly and passionately adore the combination of the 5D and the 24-105mm f/4 L IS. I have the 24-105 and it is awesome. Built tough, very good IS, brilliant colour and contrast, and a nice, solid size. It's only f/4, but the 3-stop (I think?) IS makes up for this nicely, in my experience. So, you can't go wrong with a 5D and a 24-105, especially if you pick up a used one, as they are super cheap now that the 5D MkII is out (like $1500).

If I was buying one camera and one lens, that would be it. But on the other hand, I'd go cheaper and buy two lenses- a 40D, a 17-40/4 and a 70-200/4. But that's me :-)
