My friend put up our Christmas tree and I thought I'd try the Orton technique on it. Not sure if these would be considered Orton, but it did create some interesting patterns.

Thanks Bambi. I was kinda on the fence as to whether I like these or not. Thought I'd post to see what other people thought.

Interesting patterns! I like 4 the best as it is the most abstract, esp. the background. Quite like 1 too, especially the right side of ti.

One thing though, this isn't what I know of as the Orton Technique :)

Thanks thoughton. I did camera movement like it was Orton, but the result wouldn't likely be considered Orton.
I kinda liked the first one as it gave me the impression of being electrified.

Thanks Marko. I was trying to do something for the Orton assignment and this was the result.
Strange thing is I was just zooming in and out or moving it up and down. Don't know how it got to be so wigglely. Also there are only red lights. I have no idea how I ended up with both red and yellow lines. Where did the yellow come from. Also strange that the lines are a bunch of dots and not a solid line.

Huh, I thought the Orton technique was about overlaying a blurred version of the same photograph?

PS I think the lights are dots and not a line because they are flashing at approx 60Hz, too fast for the eye to see, but captured by your camera movements.

hey Thoughton - Podcast 101 (http://www.photography.ca/blog/2011/10/12/moving-your-camera-during-exposure/) discusses intentional camera motion. it's a technique Michael has been playing with but different from the orton effect.

Ah OK thanks Marko. I've never listened to the podcast! I might do if I had a long commute or something like that, but I don't - it's only a 3 minute drive to my office:) I'll download a few for my next holiday!
