I finally found one of those round tuits - even found a really nice wooden one. So here are a few pictures from the airshow back in June.

A-10 Thunderbolt II, aka Warthog. Bucket loads of power, for ridiculous climb rates and maneuvering. We got one of the official demonstration planes. I've also seen them at the Ontario airshow, courtesy of Mountain Home AFB.

Dornier GMBH Alpha Jet. So far as I know, Mark hasn't named it. You can see what a tight fit the cockpit is in the first photo.

Mark just has way too much fun at airshows. Here he is with Hell-er Bust.

Mark and JC (in Sneak Attack) flew a few laps together.

Little Witch, visiting from Florida. She also flew a heritage tribute flight with the Warthog.

13064

Red Eagle, a Pitts S1-T. She had a bit of trouble on the way home. Rather suddenly oiled the windscreen. The pilot did a good job of landing, which is tough with a little plane like that. She got banged up a bit, but walked away. But word is Red Eagle doesn't look like an airplane anymore.

Some of the static displays.

Beechcraft Staggerwing

Scarab engine. Amazingly, Mike isn't sure of what the airplane is.

13068

Bugeye Sprite. The stickers indicate it runs in the vintage class in the Portland region of the SCCA.

70s Shovelhead (Harley), last of the iron cylinders bikes, with a wild paint job.

Crowd watching the Life Flight helicopter come in.
13078

Not quite a big enough engine to fly
13079

Passing time. Or another type of flying, take your pick. He was one of the recruiters at the Air National Guard booth.
13076

Watching. I don't remember who was up at the time.

One of the big RC models had problems taxiing back in.

The rest of these pictures are sad. The first two are part of a Missing Man formation for Bob Finer. He died last year while assisting in a military training exercise in Florida. His plane got caught in a thunderstorm cell that came up very rapidly and was torn apart. All 3 aboard were killed.

13084

This is Greg Poe's plane. He had a business doing stunt flying at airshows. He also had an active outreach program for youths. He died about 3 weeks after this picture was taken of a heart attack. He'd been riding dirt bikes over at Blacks Creek and was stuck suddenly after he got in the truck. There will be a Missing Man formation for him Saturday. I can't make the show, but it's close enough that the formation might fly over the house. We'll see if I get anything.

Thanks, Marko, Jas and Maw. To clarify a bit, I didn't know Bob or Greg, though I did once meet Bob. He joined several of us for lunch at the airport cafe, and he struck me as a very nice person to know. But Mike knows a lot of the local pilots, and they are taking these deaths hard. Mike has spent quite a bit of time just listening to them as they talk.

And for you, Maw, a couple more shots of the Warthog, heading out and coming back.
