Took a short hike earlier before it turned into an oven outside and wound up at this lovely place. Was not where I had planned but it was an all right alternative. This is the headwaters of the Etowah River, it runs from here all the way down to the Atlanta area where it forms Lake Alatoona.

And what may be surprising is that it is in the middle of an Army base. Just to the right of the falls is a nice rock cliff where the Ranger candidates do some of their climbing and rappelling. No wonder we have a lot of them come back here to retire when you have this in your classroom.
