Taken in the evening last weekend on the Somerset coast at Kilve, looking towards the hills of the Exmoor National Park in the distance.

Comments welcome.

Hi Taffy,

I like what you're doing here but it doesn't really work for me. The land on the left looks a bit cut off and there's nothing really that stands out on it as it seems to be all in shadow. There's too much sea for my liking. I'd like to see a bit more colour in the image if that's possible. Maybe bringing through the colour of the rays to see what happens. I'm sure it would lend more drama to your image. Keep at it though as your ideas are good.

This is what hit me immediately as well. I think it's because of that very dark lump of rock(?).
However, the scene still works for me because I fine plenty of interest in the distant hills, dramatic sky and sea.

Thanks for the comments.

Have re-worked the image after the comments and advice from a photographer friend.

I think it is a bit stronger plus learned a couple of new techniques.

This second shot is much better to my eye with way better details in the blacks and more contrast and sharpened a bit more.

The tones are lovely here and I like the image overall - it does please my eye.
That said I do agree that the left crop is a bit severe.... but for me it's just missing something in the midground. Perhaps a very slow stutterspeed would have made the water more dynamic....hmmmm.

Yes, second shot works for me. Personally I like the composition a lot, I like the way the waves are "stopped" by the massive lands. Reminds me a bit of the cliffs of Mohar in Ireland .. maybe not quite as high, yet impressive.
