Mountain Crossings

This building is at the highest road point in our county. The view in this photo has a bit of Appalachian Trail trivia attached to it. The building though was built in the 1930's by the CCC as a community center of sorts where dances were held. Was basically to get folks up out of the valleys to meet other folks they were not related to. At least that is what the story is. These days it is the first place on the AT going north that you can get supplies, stay in a bed and get some help from experts shedding pounds of gear that you might have thought you needed but turns out you don't. Such as the one person that was carrying scuba gear. :headslap:

Oh and the answer to the AT trivia, this is the only place that the Appalachian Trail goes under a roof along the entire 2,181 miles from Georgia to Maine.

It is one of those things that if you love the outdoors you have to try and make a trek on it at some point. For me living near by it I have a love hate relationship with it. Love every minute that I am on it but hate life the next day when I can't walk from it kicking my tail!

Nothing surprises me. Especially when I've seen cars coming to Canada in the summer with skiis on the roof.

But it's Canada, there's always snow on the ground right? :)

One of the ridge runners was telling our scouts about some of the things they have gotten out of the shelters on the trail. His strangest was a wheeled office chair. 15 miles in either direction on the trail from anything. A head scratcher for sure.

Thanks. There was just a storm that passed that while it was not fun during to get caught in, the nice light afterwards made it worth it.
