i took this camping, last friday. i used a long exposure of about 1 to 2 seconds. i have not edited this pic at all, so it needs to be cropped but oh well. what do yall think?

Really nice flame texture in your shot.

The downside is the fire is framed completely centrally, which makes it look a little more like a snapshot.

I'd perhaps take it over one side, and perhaps also try to find another subject in the non-fire side, like a person staring into the flames or something.
Cropping might help to get it out of that deadly centre position.

Yes, that's certainly got less of a snapshot feel - it feels much more intentional and deliberate.

Agree with Ben H - shot 2 is better though the dude sitting on the chair is a distraction and not helping the image. (he really seems to be enjoying the flames though - how many beers were in that red cooler anyway ;))

wow... i'm certainly not in line with the rest of you on this one...

the first shot is good.... imo rule of thirds does not apply to an image like this.. it would be silly to place the fire in the third when it has a central and upward direction... my nitpik might be to crop it a little tighter...

the second image looks more like drunken snapshot to me.... i've got tons of them myself.... the shutter drag makes the ambers look nice and streaky but come on people... the shot is a mess.....
