I like to keep these assignments as wide as possible but tegan came up with a good advanced way to shoot this assignment.

So - this is a low light assignment and feel free to shoot it in any way you see fit.

BUT

if you wanted to take it up a notch you could try unnatural low light according to tegan's explanation/suggestion.
"Now of course, a mid day shot can be transformed into a night shot perhaps with moonlight through any number of approaches including filters, shooting through dark transparent glass or plastic, solarization, as well as selective darkening and a whole raft of postprocessing methods."

This should be a creative one either way!

Thanks!

Very little blur?! He's got two backs!! :)

ANyway, yeah I like the effect - it's spoiled a little for me by having the subject dead centre though.

Hmm, this might be a good opportunity to do some light painting, methinks...

I like this shot and the mood it evokes. The blur doesn't even bother me much. It's the dead center subject that could be greatly improved through some drastic cropping.

This is a fun theme...who is next? :)

Ok this is my attempt - it is taken from inside behind a window of the moon

I like this shot Elle. It might be even more effective if the whole image was a wee bit darker, but i like it!

Elle - I think you did a really nice job on exposure. I like the color as well. May be a bit of work on the focus though.

PK - love it!

We spent a couple nights in Banff last week. There were broken clouds and a 3/4 moon. I sure could have used a tripod. I set my camera on the roof of a buiding and rolled up gloves. Setting were f9, 143 sec exposure, ISO 500 and 28 mm. I wanted a realy long exposure so the clouds would move (like water falls) however I got a lot of noise and the shot looked like daylight before I adjusted it in PS. Any advice on night shooting?

Thanks
EJC

Nice shot WD - and congrats!!!! If this were my shot I may have cropped/moved the oxygen unless you deliberately wanted it in the shot.

wd - love it! love the expression of this new little soul!

ejc - what i really like about this shot is that you had an idea in mind of what you wanted prior to hitting the shutter. the cable release and tripods can come later... the thought process is priceless.

I think that if you would have used a longer shutter speed, higher fstop number and 100 iso, you could have sharpened it up a bit... those choices would certainly require the use of a tripod and release.

Thanks for the tips Tomorrowstreasures. When I got home from this trip I found a nice tripod & head on Kijiji.ca. I'll use the shutter delay until I get a remote release.

I'll have to remember to pick a more practical display size for this site. Sorry folks!

This one I took from my back yard some time back.
It was January snow less nights, I tried to highlight the moon but I think I over exposed it a little.

PK--I love how the light makes his eyes light up. The fact that its not everyday candle and candle stick holder makes the photograph interesting to me.
Good Job
