What Are You Looking At?

Always liking to get critiques in the scale model hobby, it's time to some on the photo side of the hobby life. This is one I had actually stopped to take a shot of the landscape across the road and happened to turn around and quickly think that might be a good picture. So what do y'all think?

Hi LK,

I'm a bit confused - what does this image have to do with scale model hobby? For me this means that you CREATE the scene with fake horses, barns etc and shoot it so that it looks real. I do not believe this is happening here tho. i think you might simply be talking about the perspective/size of objects in a scene.

Either way, this is an interesting image for me, but it's not making me go "Wow".

I do like the position of the horse, grass, barn. I like how it has a very balanced, somewhat geometric feel and i dig how the grass has divided the frame nicely. Basically I REALLY like the image on an intellectual level if that makes sense. But it's not giving me much emotion...

the scale model reference was to learning from critiques of my work and that I am hoping to learn from the same way in photography.

And I can go with your opinion fully, pretty much how I felt about it and wanted to see what others thought. Always liked how everything sits in it.

Nice image. I think the horse is a bit to close to the right side of the frame. It's a tad blue on my monitor but it could be me:)

Love that barn roof! Cool shape. I like the composition but would have placed the horse a bit further into the photo I think.
I can see a halo around the horses ar ... butt ;) Guessing this is from duplicating the layer and then blending a light version through?

My take on this would be that you were at a high vantage point, as it looks like you shot down towards the horse and scenery.Waling down into the ditch for a better l(lower) vantage point would make the horse look larger. The forest looks dark and it looks like an autumn picture. I think the picture would have had more "wow" if the horse would have broken the green grass ( horizon) using a rule the rule of thirds( and your vantage point). More exposure of the colours in the forest would have brought this picture more to life. think of it like the horse being your model and the rest of the scenery as your backdrop.
