I went out to the ice races today to try my luck at some more action photos.:fingerscr I think a few turned out not too bad. A little sun would have been nice to help bring out more colour but not today.
Any critiqueing is always welcome. Hope you enjoy.

Nice catches. I like the spray of the snow\ice from the tires. I also like how the tracks in the ice provide leading lines to the cars.
The only small critique I have is I find the trucks in the background a bit distracting, especially when they are partially cut off.

that's not racing, that's a typical canadian highway this winter!!! :)

I like the spray of snow.

Very good shots of a unique sport. I can see the action in the wheels and it's really strong in #3. Do you happen to have any shots in the corners with just a bit longer exposure so the drift is more visual?

Nice Aub.
It's tuff on a heavy overcase day to get any contrast.

Thanks to all for the nice comments.
Asnow... I agree. in editing I cropped to leave some of the tracks in to give the viewer an idea of the controlled slide around the corners but totally forgot about cropping out the other trucks etc. in the background
Andrew....sorry bud!....no longer exposures. I shot all these in aperture mode and let the camera do the rest. I considered adding a little exposure comp due to the snow but it was such a dark overcast day I just went without it.
Weather permitting races are on again next weekend tho.

Neat shots. Brings back memories of the ice roads we used to travel on.. :P

Perhaps you might try speed priority instead of aperture. That way you can set the speed to something slower and have a bit of blur to show the motion.

This is a cool series and you have some wonderful shots.  It's a shame they are a little underexposed and that the white balance is off a bit. Are you shooting RAW or JPG?

Oh, and I couldn't resist a quick edit in Picasa of one of these since you don't mind :)

Very cool shots of something not many get to observe. Little pp and these will all be "great" shots.

Hey Iggy. Forgot to answer your question a minute ago. The answer is I ususally shot jpeg mainly due to only using the 4GB card that came with the camera. I went back to the races and tried a few in raw only. WOW! lesson learned. Trouble is if I want to take very many shots on an outing I will need a bigger/more cards.
Went out and bought a lottery ticket!!
