Wow, nice. Can you share your secrets on how you got that shot? :)

Thanks for the comments pips.

The "Secrets" to this shot are:

Setup:

A pint glass upside down in a saucepan, with marbles balanced on top.
Black Card behind.
40w Fluorescent desk lamp to the right and slightly behind.
Water being poured over from a jug above.

Slow shutter speed to get a bit of a flow of water 1/4 Sec

Timing and the ability to pour with one hand whilst operate the shutter via remote with the other, and the ability to curse out loud the first 30 times cause you can't co-ordinate yourself heh.

Photoshop to adjust curves and levels a bit.

I'm going to try that sometime. Thanks for sharing :)

I really like this kind of stuff - very cool. Love the green tint in the marbles! It's amazing what kind of detail you can find in small, photogenic objects.

I also really like the use of water - I'll try me some of that, methinks! :)

In fact, just a couple of weeks ago I was doing something pretty similar to your image (no water, but glass) - I'll repost them in another thread in a sec.

Nice image, though PK! 8)

Sweet! This is so inspiring. I must try something like this as well.

I don't even know if this is practically doable but I'd like to see the lower part of the setup, a pint glass was it (?), either be fully enclosed in flowing water or to have droplets on its sides that preserves the sense of flow that has been initiated by the poring water. IMO it seems as the motion of the water comes to a halt when you see the static droplets.

Also, the marbles are beautiful with their blown out highlights in contrast to the pitch-back background. But perhaps it would add to the image if there were more details in the glass' facet that is facing the light? Perhaps the whole face needn't be blown out?

Thanks for the insight into your bag of tricks. Please keep'em coming. Cheers!

That really is an amazing shot! I love the colour of the marble - it is such an original idea!

Must try these kinds of effects!
(once I get much better :o )
