Hi folks.
I haven't been hanging around on the forum much lately but I'm hoping you can throw me some thoughts on valuation of a photography related domain name I have been asked to sell. I know there are appraisal services for such things, but as far as I can tell from reading up on godaddy's appraisals, for example, they seem loosey goosey wild guesses at best. The only real value is what it's worth to someone. And that is a tough game without a crystal ball.
The domain name is ubersnap (dot) com
From all I've read on valuation of web names it seems to satisfy most important criteria of a good name, relevant, memorable, less than 10 letters long, is .com and not .net or other, etc
Someone contacted me saying they are a student and want the name for a photo blog, but who knows... a crafty buyer would be expected to say as much.
I initially told him that a student's blog probably wouldn't justify a price that would make it worth selling for me, but he came back as persistent as ever, wanting me to name that price.
Does anyone here have any similar experiences to relate, or some experience in negotiating or valuing something like domain names?
I have a price in mind of $750 but my mind sways from "that's insanely overpriced" to "that's nothing the way .com real estate is disappearing so quickly." Truth is, I see worse names billed as premium domains priced in the thousands of dollars.
I was going to put this in the off topic forum, but it clearly says topics not related to photography and this is albeit loosely.
