I bought the Canon 55-250mm IS for my XSi which is pretty good value for money and has plenty of performance for my needs at the moment, and provides a good range of focal lengths fover the kit lens.

Tamron and Sigma are popular lens manufacturers, so it's not like they are cheap rubbish or anything.

Tamron is indeed a well known third party manufacturer of lenses for all major brands of SLR/DSLR. Generally speaking, they tend to be of a little better build quality than their Sigma or Tokina cousins, but not as good as the Canon would be.

I don't know this lens specifically, so I can't comment on it, however, I will say that while I'm a big fan of buying things off of eBay, and of used gear in general, lenses are not something that I would consider buying sight-unseen unless I was very, very comfortable with the vendor. Ensure you check his feedback, # of items sold etc. As well, look around the 'net and find out what this lens is selling for, and make sure that you don't fall into "I'll just bid another dollar" trap.
