Hi,
I'm thinking to open a little photography studio in Ontario, and I'm not sure about the rules (or the law).
Anybody can be photographer, even professionnal photographer ?

Thank you for your answers.

yep... pretty much...

you can join associations to make you look more professional such as the ppoc... but you don't need a "photography license" to sell images...

in fact... you don't even have to register a company name... you can sell images under your name and don't have to collect taxes if your sales are less than $30,000 per year (be careful though, if you go $1 over $30k you have to remit taxes on the entire sum)

if your studio is in home some of your mortgage interest and other items are deductible... but don't take my word for all this... you should most likely have a visit with an accountant or do some serious (non forum) research of your own...

good luck!!!

I would hope that you know basic business, contracts, marketing, law, and have some design and art skills as well, just to mention a few areas. I would also hope that you have sufficient equipment and a broad range of photographic experience.

I know everything, of course :)
No seriously, I think I'm ready to start soon, but like anybody who start a business, I try to find all informations, or ideas who will be able to help me !
For the moment, I need to be reassure about the law.

Check out your local adult-ed/community college and see what they have on small-business/entrepreneurship courses. If you're serious about this and want a business proper that's the way to go. If you just want to sell a few pictures at craft sales, well, not so much...

I hope it will be more than to sale a few pictures at craft sales:)
I expect to offer my services for weddings, family portrait, and more....
