Podcast suggestion - Car Rigs - On the cheap??

This is something I've been looking into recently, but I'm having trouble finding out where to get any of the equipment from.

it's probably going to be a very specific thing to me anyways, but I love the Rig Photography, They are used to get photos of cars from the exterior whilst the car is in motion, to get cool blurred backgrounds etc :) now i'd love to be able to do this, but I might be the only one heh.

So far I know they use some kind of equipment to mount the camera away from the car, and take a pic with the rig off, but camera in the same location, then with the rig on, car in motion and photoshop out the rig that's visible etc. although I read somewhere that someone had used a Rig that wasn't visible.

I know it is NOT the same, but have you tried simply panning or creating a speed blur in postprocessing.

I've tried panning, and got some good results from that, but can't get the angles that I want, don't wanna try sitting in front of the car then dodging at the last second heh, I'm no Indiana Jones :)

and I have tried adding a motion blur to the background too, but it never looked quite as good as those damn fine rig shots lol. maybe that's about practice though, it may be possible once you understand how to motion blur each part in the right direction, everytime I've tried that it looks manipulated.

I've never tried this, but it's interesting.

Not sure I want to commit to podcasting this since I know zero about it and don't know anyone that's tried it...but ya never know, I often get inspired to try totally new things.
I'll keep this idea on the backburner for now though...I have many podcasts to get out first because they were suggested prior to this one.
