Was in new york city for a photoshow last week (podcast to follow in about 24 hours). Had very little time to shoot photos but here's 2 that i liked. Feel free to comment or critique any aspect.

I love the patterns in the second one... took me a minute to figure out what was going on there! The first I really like because of the juxtaposition of a horse next to all those cars and a car repair shop at that. I'm surprised someone who works around horses would stand behind one like that though
This is not so much a critique but an observation. I find street shots like this difficult because there are so many distractions. It's very challenging to bring focus to the subject matter. You've done it well here though. :)

Thanks Iggy - The intended focal point was indeed the juxtaposition of the horse/signs/cars. It was a tough catch cuz all i had was a 105 lens....but no longer, I just picked up the new 28-300mm by Nikon. It's variable aperture but the focal range is SUPERB and first tests are real gooooood. Could be the best all around travel lens for Nikon shooters at this time.

Yeah, the focal range on my 70-300 is what I like the most. I'm thinking of picking up a 24-105 as my next lens or something like that. My kit lens is just so soft I hate to use it but I don't having anything good on the wide angle end. Time to start saving again :)

I love them both. I really like the repeating patterns in the second. the juxtaposition of the horse and setting tells a story.

it depends on the horse and how well you know each other ;)
but if you do stand behind a horse you are better off to stand close then farther away. the kick will still hurt like hell but it's less likely to break anything :fingerscr

I find the signs with the horse very complimentary and to me is the essence of the photo. A livery caught between the times. Great shot!! I haven't seen a similar one in many years. I imagine tourist carriages are all that remains of the service in a major city although I believe Central Park may have one for riders as well.

Really like the nostalgia in the first shot. Very well taken. As was said, took me awhile to figure out that second one also, liking the patterning, and cool angle.

I love the pattern on the second one. It's my favorite one.
