For some reason the images from Flickr aren't showing as sharp as they used to here. Can't be sure if it's a Flickr thing because they changed some things recently or it's the site upgrade.

Salt water, carbon sails, 1 trillion volts of electricity ... what could go wrong??

Very cool shot. Am I right thinking that you waited with an open camera shutter for the lightning to strike so the lightning could act as a flash to expose the boats? I agree that your Flickr version looks sharper and slightly larger than here, and I noticed that generally the forum seems to be compressing images, even ones linked from elsewhere. Mike

It would have been cool if that's how I did it but the honest truth is this was just a bland shot of the boats against a featureless sky. So I took a lightning shot I took years back and that's the result.

Well, it's still a cool trick shot. Mike

Honestly, I thought the patterns in those strikes looked familiar. I do believe I recall seeing the original unless you've re-used them many times. It's definitely well executed 'shopping.

Thanks all.
Not sure if I've ever shown that lightning photo before Ig but maybe, once only, about 1 1/2 years ago perhaps.
This is something I do very rarely and usually on a re-visit to a set of photos to make something out of a shot that lacks something.

Maybe you were playing with another shot. I have vague recollection of a shot where you had mountains and a lightening strike or two and in one edit of it you stuck your face in the upper right corner. Either way, it was a fantastic choice for punching up this shot. Very cool and well done.

Yeh I did do that with one of my lightning shots ... but a different shot. I used another one again behind our car not so long ago as well.
Thanks IG :)

Cool stuff! Lol, I was wondering about the lightning. Generally, those little guys get out of the water at the first sign of trouble.
I also have issue with the flickr loaded photos. The forum is definitely compressing them. If you click on your image and load in a new tab you can see the larger sharper version.
