As part of the scavenger hunt our photoclub had at Heritage Park in Calgary we had to create a picture of "Chris" jumping away from the "Time Machine" or something like that. Anyway, here is my first attempt at using two images, layers and masks in order to create this image. Of course the jumping part was taken after the train had passed ...

Nicely processed Matt, The layer masks have worked very well. It makes a very cool image.
2 things that you could consider are:
1. Add a new shadow layer and paint in a shadow under the lower foot using a soft brush with low opacity and noise. (It takes a bit of practice to get it to look right) I'm surprised there isn't a shadow in the original image that could be masked in?
2. Add a new layer on the top of the stack, and add some more steam around Chris's feet. (Either mask it off from another image or use photoshop's render clouds, and blend them in. Done well this will add another 'convincer' of tying 'Chris' and the locomotive together.
remember these are just ideas :)
