This small gauge steam railway was next to the camp-site we were staying at, It runs trains between Ravenglass and Dalegarth. (a 30 min trip each way).

You can see the signal box in the first shot,

The Ratty arms is the pub on the main station in Ravenglass, the main line runs next to the small gauge one for a few minutes.

Looks like a wonderful old station too. How old is this?

You are really developing a subdued colour style to your work. It's nice.

Thanks MA, I'm trying to find a personal style, I'm sure I'll change my mind on it again in a few months.

Here's a brief summary of the history on the railway...

The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway opened on May 24th 1875, its purpose being to ferry iron ore from workings near Boot to the coast at Ravenglass. On November 20th 1876 the first passengers were carried. It closed in 1933 and stood disused for 2 years. It was used for transporting quarrying materials during the 40's and 50's, was put up for auction in the 60's where it was bought by the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Preservation Society...

It doesn't seem very long does it. 1876 until 1933 but I guess that's 57 years.

all very well done, Rich. It's always amazed me the amount of blood, sweat, tears and money that went into building the railway infrastructure in the US and how quickly and nearly totally it was abandoned. Europe still has options the North American countries could really use, but no longer have. Ah progress.
