Found a few more presets for Lightroom. Some of these use curves that you can not achieve in LR alone. Tried out the AB steel preset (http://digitalmoods.com/category/lightroompresets/)and took this rather dull photo:

To this much more striking photo:

Nice! I use presets frequently but never studied the "magic" behind them much. I didn't know that some of the adjustments made by presets can't be accomplished in LR manually. Interesting.

I guess I don't understand. How do they achieve the settings if they can't be done manually?

I'm using presets from these websites:

Presets | PresetsHeaven (http://www.presetsheaven.com/category/presets/)
After I apply the preset I still make some adjustments(not all the time), depends on photo.

Here is their explanation:
"This preset is kind of special, as it uses a non-standard tonecurve. In tact, it’s a tone curve that you cannot create using Lightroom’s own user interface. Instead, this tonecurve was created by editing the preset file with an external editor and plotting the curve coordinates manually."

That still makes no sense. But whatever. thanks for the links. I've thought about importing other presets, but was too lazy to look for them.
