Mad Aussie

In 1964 the Tasman bridge was opened to cross the Derwent River and bridge the gap to Rosny, Bridgewater and on to the Tasman Peninsula.
On Jan 5 in 1975 at 9.27pm the bulk ore carrier ship "Lake Illawarra" crashed into the bridge. 3 sections of the span fell, sinking the ship and killing 6 crew onboard. Before traffic could be stopped, 5 more people (in cars) drove off the bridge to their deaths also.
Can you imagine that? I can barely start to imagine the horror of suddenly driving into the blackness and realizing you were falling to your death.
