Cool shots, MA. The first one actually reminds me of Mission Impossible #2 or #3 where they did the front wheelie with guns a blazin'! :)

Oh, yes. Sears Point actually has a drag strip (or did - that may have changed). It runs from turn 1 to turn 7. It's also great for getting the crash truck to the far end of the track in a hurry. For a while the highway patrol was renting time once a month and inviting the teens/20 somethings out to race to build some communications and keep them from doing it on the roads (nitro's illegal, but doesn't stop its use, the roads in the area are trickier than they look). The rules for the cops were, if you normally carried it, you had to carry it for the race. So they'd be running down the drag strip with the lights and sirens going, shotgun in the rack and the police dog in the back seat. I don't know if they still do that.
They used to do that here on the Gold Coast at Surfers Paradise too. It seemed to help the relationship between cops and hoons tremendously ... so it stopped ... like most things government related and beneficial to the community that doesn't make them money.
If it was anything like around Sears Point, it probably helped keep down the body count, which is part of why they were sponsoring the event. You're getting into coastal mountain roads. Too many people who thought they could handle them at speed ended up in a body bag once the car got winched back up onto the road.
Similar I guess but more city trouble. Cars wrapped around lamp posts etc
