All birds have them.
I have seen them on geese, perfect round white patches when their eyes are closed. I always figured it was to fool predators into thinking they're awake but that's just my guess :)
Don't they have an inner protective eyelid? I gotta go google this.
These are the patches I'm referring to. It kind of makes them look awake when they sleep:)

QuietOne, birds are cool, huh? The more you photograph them, the more stuff you start to know about them. OK, I live with a couple of birds so I am prejusticed. :)
