This is a Rainbow Lorikeet, a native to our area that regularly visits neighbourhood trees in the hundreds. We often get several in our yard each morning.

Wow. Loving the colour. Couple of nice captures there!
I haven't saturated those either ... they really are that bright. Noisy buggers when there's a few of them around though.
I like the red ring around the eye too.
These birds have a serious attitude too. Cheeky. They are king of where they are if they can be. I've seen them chase away the much larger Sulphur Crested Cockatoos.
MA - those birds don't hold a candle to the beauty of our brown sparrows.
Wow...that really is something...beautiful colours! We don't get anything like that out here - unless they escaped their home!
All I've seen lately are chickadees, starlings and the occasional Canada goose or two! The summer birds are still gone for at least another month out here.:(

Funny also TT ... yes ... the beauty of a brown house sparrow is unmatched.
Ever notice how in nature it's the males that are the most beautiful? ;)
I guess humans don't rate as 'nature' :(
on a more serious note, how nice it is to be able to look out your kitchen window at such beauty!!! and the other wild life you have shared! here, it is your basic squirrel and cottontail rabbits. on occasion, you may spy a rodent of one variety or another, but nothing like the awesome critters you have.. and, thanks so much for photographing them for us to see!

seriously? you don't have squirrels? they are pretty cute... oh - i forgot, you can see raccoon and deer here too - there are actually some that bounce around in our neighborhood during the summer.
Nope ... no squirrels here.
Deer ... yes ... but almost never see them. More likely to see a snake and that isn't very likely at all.
Raccoons are cool ... I'd love to see raccoons, we don't have them either.
that got me thinking - a map with photos from ph.ca members of the animals in your own hood.

Beautiful photos MA! Lol, I have a soft spot for parrots of all kinds. I know Casil in real life and she can attest to having being unudated on a daily basis with photos of my birds.
Thank you Raiven ... me too. I love parrots. Galahs are hilarious especially around here. They hang upside from powerlines and wrestle each other in the dirt, lying on their backs ... funny stuff from a cockatoo that's about 300mm in height (12 inches to you Americans stuck in the 70's ;) )

Gosh, lately here in my neighbourhood we've been innundated with skunks! :yuck: I've seen 2 strolling around our 'hood in the last 2 days and last night one sprayed right near the house around 1am....the smell was just ranK and acrid right up until this morning! Last year one sprayed my dog in the face and he reeked for about 6 months!Quote:

very cool shots MA! love the bright colors... nothing like that at all up here - all we get are chickadees and blue jays. often you can spy an owl or bald eagle. as for wildlife theres moose, elk, deer (every time i leave town, i see at least one if not 20), fox, beavers, bears...
