Homeless
This was an enormous and very tall pine tree sitting atop the first ridge inland from the beach. Over the years, the big storms coming in from The Gulf of Alaska had blown off branches and damaged the house below (my neighbors') on numerous occasions. Had the tree been blown down, their house was directly in the lee. This tree was full of birds of all kinds and their nests. It was felled in early Spring. I made this picture the afternoon after the tree died. Rich

Poor bird seems like he's in mourning!

Yup, that's the way it looked to me, too, Jason. Rich

Cool story to accompany the photo! Adds some emotion.

Thanks, Mad Aussie. Yeah, had to have the story. I wanted to see if many folks saw what I saw. Rich

Nice moment caught here. I like the silhouette and colour

I like the moment as well as the story. He does look a bit sad. Nice mood.

Thanks, Runmonty. I can't resist a backlit shot. Rich

Thanks, Iguanasan. I got lucky. Saw him through the window and cracked the back door just enough to poke a 400mm lens through. Rich

Really like the solemn look to this. Love how the mood matches the story.

Thank you, asnow. The story enhances the picture, all right. I hung this one in a gallery at 16x20 and couldn't tell the story but just the title made viewers get the story. While I was there, I could tell the story and it sold quite a few. Interesting how many more people will buy art if the artist is there to meet them. Rich

Love the story as it makes this wonderful pic have so much meaning to it. Sad really.
