Black Fox
I always enjoy the drive up the Alaska Highway to Whitehorse. It goes through some great wildlife areas. This latest trip was no exception. I came across a beautiful black fox running along the ditch. I pulled ahead of it and got out to get some pictures. It didn't seem to mind as it kept running and came within 30 feet of me.
Over the next 30 minutes I leapfrogged in front of it countless time and let the fox run past me. It would stop once in a while to hunt for mice or something. It eventually decided to head deeper into the woods. What a cool creature!

You have to love the cooperative wild animals. Thanks for looking at the images. Any comment or suggestions are always welcome. Thanks!

Nice shots, Dan. Looks like he got some sort of bird.
-
Thanks! The wing was already on the ground and the fox just picked it up. To be honest I didn't even know it was a wing until I looked at the picture later.
On another note, I took these pictures the other day just north of 60 near Watson Lake, Yukon. It was only the second black fox I had seen. Today I'm in Inuvik, NWT (inside the arctic circle) and just ran across another black fox. I only managed to get a crappy far away snapshot. I thought black foxes were rare, 2 in like 3 days. Cool!
-
Oh, that is cool! To be honest I have never even heard of a black fox before seeing it here.
-
What a fantastic opportunity! love the clarity in those first few shots. He looks like an old fox too with that grey fur.
-
well made, the sharpness is the first few is just stunning
-
thanks for sharing those. It looks like such a lively and interesting animal. You've done it justice, ya lucky bastid! ; )
-
great find! I love the first shot- the detail and clarity are perfect
-
Awesome captures of a beautiful creature Dan. Love those first three especially.

I agree w/WD here! You have indeed done this fox justice - Very cool set. Dig the comps and sharpness!

Thanks again for the comments. To see all the fox images, they are posted on my Flickr stream.
This new fox was 1000kms north as a crow flies or about 1700km driving. It couldn't be the same one. He wasn't that fast of a runner.
Here it is at 100% crop at 4000 ISO.

More beautiful captures Dan. Love the sharpness of that first one in this last set, and the tension in that second shot also. excellent work.
That Caribou shot is something else also. Makes me feel cccccold.
